TBH-ADA Reminds MACC to Uphold the Law and Protect the Rights of Detainees
Kuala Lumpur — The Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement (TBH-ADA) takes note of recent media reports that the former Economy Ministry official Mr James Chai has arrived at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters to record his statement.
While we recognise the importance of anti-corruption investigations, TBH-ADA wishes to remind MACC that all investigations must respect fundamental human rights of individuals called in for questioning or placed under custody, the interrogation time must not go beyond 9am to 5pm to prevent abuse of power, physical or mental torture.
MACC must ensure that all persons in its custody are treated humanely, are not subjected to intimidation or coercion, and are afforded their legal rights, including access to lawyer during the interrogation and adequate rest.
MACC must not abuse its powers. We do not wish to see another person who has died in custody like Teoh Beng Hock. Beng Hock was denied the right to access to lawyer, right to rest and right to food. Beng Hock were deprived of his right to not subjected to torture and right to life.
The tragic death of Teoh Beng Hock remains a painful reminder of the consequences when enforcement agencies fail to respect legal boundaries and human rights. MACC must demonstrate accountability, transparency, and restraint, especially in high-profile cases that draw public attention.
TBH-ADA urges MACC to act in accordance with the rule of law and to rebuild public confidence through practices that prioritise justice, safety, and human dignity.

赵明福民主促进会提醒反贪会务必维护法治和保障被扣留者权利
吉隆坡 —— 赵明福民主促进会关注到近期媒体报道，前经济部官员蔡镇燊 （James Chai）先生已抵达反贪污委员会（MACC）总部录取口供。
虽然我们认同反贪调查的重要性，但赵明福民主促进会在此提醒反贪会，所有调查过程必须尊重被传唤盘问或被扣留者的基本人权。为了防止滥权、身理或心理折磨，盘问时间绝不能超出上午9时至下午5时的范围。
反贪会必须确保所有在扣留期间的人士获得人道对待，不遭受恐吓或胁迫，并享有应有的法律权利，包括盘问期间获得律师陪同以及获得充足的休息。
反贪会切勿滥用权力。我们不希望看到再有任何像赵明福一样的扣留期间死亡事件发生。当年，明福被剥夺了律师陪同的权利、休息和进食的权利。他也同样被剥夺了免受折磨的权利以及生命权。
赵明福的惨剧至今仍是一个痛苦的提醒，告诫我们执法机构若不尊重法律界限与人权，将会造成何等严重的后果。反贪会必须展现问责制、透明度与克制，特别是在引起公众高度关注的案件中。
赵明福民主促进会敦促反贪会依据法治行事，并通过优先考虑公正、安全与人类尊严的办案模式，重塑公众信心。
