[PS] RELEASE THE YOUTH ACTIVISTS

MADANI MUST NOT BECOME A POLICE STATE: RELEASE THE YOUTH ACTIVISTS

We, members of the Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement (TBH-ADA), express our deepest outrage and unwavering solidarity with youth activists Hamdin, Peko, and Ahsanul, following their recent arrest. This heavy-handed crackdown is a direct betrayal of the democratic principles once championed by this administration and its Prime Minister.

For decades, we stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the leaders of today’s government. We remember the days when Anwar Ibrahim spoke of “Reformasi” and condemned the cruelty of a police state. Yet today, we are forced to ask: Has the Madani Government abandoned the spirit of Reformasi, or have they forgotten the rakyat who marched beside them?

It is a bitter irony that those once persecuted have now become the oppressors. By deploying state machinery to intimidate and silence young voices, the Madani Government has chosen the comfort of the establishment over the struggle of the people. They have traded the fire of activists for the baton of repression.

We condemn all forms of state-sponsored intimidation. Our association was founded in memory of a political victim. We will never stop resisting the abuse of power, and we will never abandon those targeted by the state. We stand firmly with these youth activists. A government that fears its youth has lost its moral compass.

Our Demands

  • Hands Off Our Youth: Immediately release Hamdin, Peko, and Ahsanul, and cease all investigations and harassment against them and all youth activists calling for an independent investigation into Azam Baki.
  • End the Police State: Stop using the police as a political instrument to intimidate, silence, and criminalise dissent.
  • Reformasi Now: Repeal and dismantle draconian laws and practices that continue to be weaponised against the people.

We urge the public to recognise this alarming erosion of civil liberties. Malaysians must not allow the normalisation of repression and arbitrary arrests. We call upon all Malaysians to stand in solidarity and join the upcoming #TangkapAzamBaki rally on 25th April, to demand accountability and defend democratic freedoms.

This government must be reminded: despite their betrayal, the flame of Reformasi is not extinguished. It continues to burn fiercely in the hearts of the rakyat.
