During the commemoration activity, Kenneth Cheng helped participants to review the chronology of the tragic death of Beng Hock on 16 July 2009. MACC conducted 4 interrogations against Beng Hock till mid night and caused his death.
The police did not immediately seize the mobile phone, computers and servers of MACC, which gave them ample time to destroy and tamper evidence. The AG Chamber held multiple meetings with MACC officers to coordinate what to share in the 112 statement in order to protect MACC officers.
The whole process shows, unprofessional and lackadaisical attitude of the police force, is the main reason why the government failed to uncover the truth behind the death of Beng Hock. We therefore urge the unity government to set up a new professional investigation team to probe the death of Beng Hock.
