Press Statement by the Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement (TBH-ADA) in Kuala Lumpur on 20 June 2026
Johor State Election: Justice Must Not Be Absent!
Following the 15th General Election, Peninsular Malaysia is about to witness its most fiercely contested Johor state election. Various political forces in the country, including Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN), Parti Bersama Malaysia (BERSAMA), Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), and the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM), have all geared up their election machinery.
However, since the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly, the major political parties have become embroiled in meaningless verbal exchanges. They have remained silent on the institutional flaws and injustices of the past, and have failed to present a vision for creating a better future for the country.
Seventeen years after the political death of Teoh Beng Hock, his family and the Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement continue to maintain that Teoh Beng Hock, as a victim of political persecution and custodial violence, must receive justice from a legal perspective.
During this political event that has attracted nationwide attention, we emphasize:
In the Johor State Election, Justice Must Not Be Absent!
Therefore, the Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement calls on all candidates contesting in the Johor State Election to publicly support the following three demands for justice for Teoh Beng Hock:
(1) Invite international criminal investigation experts to reinvestigate the Teoh Beng Hock case under Section 302 (murder) or Section 304 (culpable homicide) of the Penal Code;
(2) Uphold the principle of the Rule of Law as enshrined in the Rukun Negara and take action against those who violated the law in relation to the Teoh Beng Hock case;
(3) Implement institutional reforms as soon as possible, including a comprehensive reform of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to ensure respect for human rights and de-weaponization of MACC, and enact an Anti-Torture Act to eliminate torture and deaths in custody.
We will distribute endorsement forms containing these demands to all political parties and request Johor State Election candidates to accept our demands. The deadline for endorsement is 1 July. During the Johor State Election campaign period, we will hold a commendation event and call upon the people of Johor to support candidates who are willing to uphold justice for Teoh Beng Hock.

柔佛州选举 正义不缺席！
自第15届全国大选之后，马来半岛即将迎来最激烈的柔佛州选举。国内的各方政治势力如希盟、国阵、国盟、同心党、统民党和社会主义党都已紧锣密鼓启动选举机器。
然而，从柔州议会宣布解散以来，各主流政党已陷入没有意义的口水战，对我国过去的制度缺陷和不正义案件保持缄默，也没有对创造更美好的未来提出它们的远景。
赵明福政治命案经历十七年之后，赵明福家属和赵明福民主促进会依然主张，作为政治迫害受难者和扣留所暴力受害者的赵明福，必须获得法律意义上的公道。
在这场全国关注的政治活动，我们强调：柔佛州选举，正义不缺席！
因此，赵明福民主促进会呼吁参与柔佛州选举的各政党候选人，公开支持还赵明福公道的三大诉求：
（一）邀请国际刑事调查专家，以刑事法典的谋杀（302）或他杀（304）条文重查赵明福案件；
（二）落实国家原则中的维护法纪条文，依法对付在赵明福案件中违法的人士；
（三）尽速实行体制改革，全面改革反贪会使之尊重人权和去武器化，制订《反酷刑法》以杜绝酷刑和扣留所死亡案件。
我们将发签署诉求表格给各个政党，要求柔佛州选举候选人接纳我们的诉求，截止日期是7月1日。我们将于柔佛州选举期间举行表彰大会，呼吁柔州人民支持愿意为赵明福伸张正义的候选人。
