Teoh Beng Hock Should Be the First Agenda in DAP’s Six-Month Reform Deadline

(Petaling Jaya, 5th) The Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement (TBHADA) welcomes the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Central Executive Committee’s acknowledgment of the crisis of confidence facing the party and Pakatan Harapan (PH) after the Sabah election defeat, and their commitment to accelerating the reform agenda with Prime Minister Anwar within the next six months.
Koong Hui Yein, the new Chairperson of the TBHADA, stated at the Annual General Meeting held in Petaling Jaya on 5 December that DAP’s loss of eight Sabah seats, including urban constituencies, was due to the massive, accumulated public discontent arising from the shattered reform image of the Unity Government since taking power in 2022. This included moving from opposing Barisan Nasional (BN) policies to embracing BN’s policies.
PH and DAP have failed to honour many past promises of institutional reform and correcting injustice, including allowing the police to announce a “No Further Action (NFA)” decision on the Teoh Beng Hock case. This is no different from the BN government’s announcement in 2016 that the case had no criminal element. During our nationwide speaking tours, the public and civil society organizations across the country have strongly protested the NFA decision, demanding the government to withdraw it and invite international criminal investigation experts to Malaysia to re-investigate the case.
The PH government’s connivance with the culture of impunity within the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) not only disregards the rule of law in the country, allowing the abusive MACC officers involved to escape justice, but also results in the MACC continuing to abuse its power and violate the fundamental human rights of other detainees. The incident where businessman Albert Tei claimed that masked MACC officers pointed guns at him and his wife is one such example.
“The Sabah election result is a wake-up call. We call on DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke to list the Teoh Beng Hock case as the first reform agenda in the six-month reform plan. After all, DAP has pledged for more than a decade to seek justice for Teoh Beng Hock, and organized annual memorial at his grave. Failing to include the Teoh Beng Hock case in the reform agenda would betray the years of support from tens of thousands of people,” Koong Hui Yein said at the AGM.
Koong Hui Yein also announced that following the establishment of the “TBHADA Exchange Community” on WhatsApp, the Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement (TBHADA) will set up “TBHADA liaison contact points” across the country in the coming years to actively build grassroots support. The contact points will become a force for achieving justice for Teoh Beng Hock and promoting social justice through activities such as study groups and direct action. She hopes that before the next General Election, there will be “TBHADA activists in every district, justice found everywhere” in all 222 parliamentary constituencies nationwide.

行动党六月改革期限 赵明福应列第一议程

（八打灵再也五日讯）赵明福民主促进会欢迎行动党中委会在沙巴选举败选后承认该党和希盟面临信心危机，并承诺将与首相安华在未来六个月加速改革议程。
赵明福民主促进会新届主席孔慧颖于12月5日在八打灵再也举行的会员大会上表示，行动党输掉包括城市选区在内的八个沙巴议席，乃是团结政府2022年执政后改革形象破灭，从反对国阵政策变成拥护国阵的政策，长期累积的大量民怨所致。
希盟和行动党违背曾经许多制度改革与纠正不公承诺，包括任由警方宣布赵明福命案“无需进一步行动(NFA)”，跟2016年国阵政府宣布该案无刑事成分并无不同。在我们展开的全国巡回讲座上，各地的民众和公民社会组织已强烈抗议NFA，要求政府撤回NFA决定，并邀请国际刑事调查专家来马重新调查。
希盟政府纵容反贪会的免责文化不但罔顾国家法治，让涉案的滥权反贪会官员逍遥法外，也造成反贪会继续滥权侵犯其他被扣留者的基本人权，商人刁健城称蒙面反贪会官员用枪指向他和太太，就是一个例子。
“沙巴选举成绩是个警钟。我们呼吁行动党秘书长陆兆福在六个月的改革议程中，列赵明福命案为第一改革议程。毕竟行动党十多年来信誓旦旦为赵明福伸张正义，也年年到墓前追思赵明福，若不把赵明福命案加入改革议程，将辜负千千万万人民多年的支持。” 孔慧颖在会员大会上如此表示。
孔慧颖也宣布，继成立whatsapp小赵交流社群后，赵明福民主促进会将于未来几年在全国设立“小赵联络站”，积极建设草根支持力量。小赵联络站将通过学习小组和直接行动等活动，成为还赵明福公道和推动社会正义的力量。她希望在下届大选来临之前，在全国222个选区“区区有小赵，处处寻正义”。
