In the wake of the announcement that there would be a fresh probe into the death of Teoh Beng Hock, law lecturer and activist Azmi Sharom calls on the government to ratify the United Nations Convention on Torture.He strongly questioned why Malaysia was not a signatory of the convention and why Malaysia had made reservations in other conventions when it came to sections outlining prevention of torture.Teoh Beng Hock, who was then the aide to DAP assemblyperson Ean Yong was found dead on the roof of the former Malaysian Anticorruption Commission building in July 2009.
